The 41-year-old singer had been candid in the past about his problems with drugs and alcohol, as well as the abuse he suffered at a young age.​

Chester Bennington was also friends with the musician Chris Cornell, who died in May. Bennington wrote a good-bye letter saying that he couldn’t “imagine a world without you in it”. Cornell would have turned 53 the day of Chester’s death.

The band has not confirmed if they will continue with the shows Linkin Park had scheduled starting next week.
